Aug 21, 2015 · Chiappa’s Take In its original form, the typical Model 1886 was long, heavy and fitted with a crescent steel buttplate, and it wore iron sights that tended to disappear in dimming light. Those were the counterpoint downsides of the gun, and those are all areas that Chiappa has addressed in its newest version of the company’s Model 1886 repros.

Yet some of Chiappa's most classic products have also been overhauled in order to better suit the needs of modern shooters and hunters. That's the case of the 1892 Alaskan lever-action rifle, which has enjoyed an immediate success on the U.S. market after its launch in early 2012 and is now being offered internationally.

This Model 1886 has been completely restored to the original factory letter. The rifle is fitted with a set of 3X fancy stocks with a pistol grip butt stock. Just picked up my Chiappa 1886 Ridge Runner TAKEDOWN in 45-70 today. 18.5” barrel (half octagonal) Skinner ghost ring sights Red fixed fiber optic up front Weaver rail Rubber coated walnut stock Matte black finish. May eventually get a scout scope for it but at this point just going to put a sling on it and a butt stock cartridge holder.

Dec 12, 2018 · The 1886 action was so successful and sturdy that it could easily accommodate the smokeless cartridges developed in the late XIX and early XX century and, with just the adoption of a nickel steel barrel, could be chambered for the high speed .33 WCF cartridge and new, smokeless loadings of classic black powder cartridges.
